Hi, I’m Joshua Gilless, a software engineer at Google in Los Angeles!
All opinions shared on this website are my own and do not express the views or opinions of my employer.
I had my first run-in with programming when I was an early teenager. It all started with this little game called ZZT that came with its own scripting language called ZZT-oop. My cousins, brother and I probably wrote a hundred games for ZZT, none of which were any good, but all of which were fun to write and share with each other. These days I write a lot more Javascript than ZZT-oop.
After graduating high school, I worked for a general contractor in construction and quickly learned that I needed to do something else. I went to Glendale Community College and then transferred to UCSD where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
Long story short, Electrical Engineering wasn’t for me, so I got a job in software, which is for me! Now I feel incredibly lucky because I learn so much from the software community. I hope that this site can be a place for me to give back and pay forward all the blog posts and technical articles that helped me. Posts will be mostly software related, so if that’s your thing, stick around!
In my spare time, I like to take photographs! You can see some of them on Instagram. My wife is an illustrator and we like to take art walks together. You could check out her Instagram too.
If you have any questions for me or comments or simply want to connect, shoot me a message on Twitter, my DM’s are open!
